A Mid-Prairie student was named an outstanding performer at the Iowa Jazz Championships Thursday.

Sophomore Ty Waters received the recognition for playing trombone. The Mid-Prairie High School Jazz Band placed seventh in the class 2A competition. Winfield-Mt. Union competed in the class 1A competition but did not place. The Iowa Jazz Championships showcases 60 of the state’s finest high school jazz ensembles and is held at Iowa State University in Ames every April.
