Washington County’s next Drug Take Back Day is quickly approaching, but people also have access to a 24-hour drop box that fills up almost weekly.

Washington County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Shawn Ellingson said it’s often used, “Don’t forget in the front of the lobby of the jail is a white mailbox that is a prescription drug drop off. It’s open 24 hours a day, so you can always drop things off there. It’s been very successful. We probably have to unload it every week or every other week at least. It is amazing some of the stuff that gets dropped off in there. There’s been some old stuff, i think the oldest I’ve found was 1968.” He reminds people needles should not be placed in the drop box. The drug take back day will be held April 28th. Last November, over 30 pounds of unwanted, expired, or unused prescription drugs were handed in.
