The Iowa Mennonite School and Columbus boys soccer teams square off on the pitch in Columbus Junction Tuesday.

This is the season opener and conference opener for Iowa Mennonite who is coming off of a tremendous 2017 season in which they finished 13-4 and were Southeast Iowa Superconference Champions. IMS is loaded with firepower this year as they return their top five scorers from a season ago that combined for 51 goals, led by Cole Ours with 19. Ours was also the team leader a season ago with 12 assists. Blake Bontrager is back in goal to lead the IMS defense, finishing last year with 76 saves.

The Wildcats are coming off of an 11-5 season with an appearance in the substate final where they were eliminated 1-0 by Solon. Columbus will be looking to replace their top two scorers from last season in Eric Cantarero and Ruben Paz that combined for 33 goals. The leading returner for the Wildcats is sophomore Angel Hernandez with four goals last year. Bryan Camargo returns to lead the Wildcats defense in net, after making 59 saves his sophomore season.

These two teams met twice a season ago with IMS winning both by one goal. Action begins tonight at 5p.m. at Columbus High School.
