Cold conditions at Highland High School Monday didn’t stop the Mid-Prairie boys soccer team from starting the season red hot, as they scored a 10-0 mercy rule win over the Huskies on the road to open the year.

Mid-Prairie led 4-0 at the half and continued to pour it on in the second, ending the game 10 minutes short of full time with their 10th goal.

Six Golden Hawks found the back of the net in total, led by a hat trick from sophomore Ashton VanWinkle. VanWinkle also finished with a pair of assists. Zeus Fugate and Jose Juarez each scored twice, Fugate also had three assists. Camden Marner, Jacob Tappan and Byron Yoder each added one tally. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 1-0, they will take on West Liberty Thursday, Highland falls to 0-1, they will see Danville tonight at home.
