A book will soon be published about symbols in cemeteries and a local historian is behind it.

Local historian Michael Zahs is working with Dr. Loren Horton of the University of Iowa on the book, which Zahs says is now in the proofreading stage. The books is about symbols on grave markers and what they represent. Zahs adds, “It’s fun, and it kind of gives you more reasons to enjoy going to a cemetery.” The pair has another project in the works about local and Iowa cemeteries.
