The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk basketball teams were in action Thursday, hosting Mediapolis in a non-conference makeup doubleheader.

In game one, the Mid-Prairie girls broke a five game losing streak by topping the No. 15 ranked Bullettes 56-51. The Hawks were hot early from behind the arc, hitting four threes in the first quarter. Mid-Prairie would lead by as many as seven in the half and take a 24-22 lead into the break. MEPO battled back in the third quarter to take a lead and build it to seven. The Golden Hawks retook the lead late on a Caitlyn Riggan three pointer, came up with two key defensive stops and saw Addie Rath go four for four at the line to put the game on ice. The Hawks were led by Rath, scoring 16, Shae Becker added 13. Mid-Prairie is now 10-7 on the year.

The Golden Hawks fell short of their bid to win three straight in the boys contest 58-57. Mediapolis started the game on an 11-2 run as the Hawks suffered through a five minute drought from the floor in the first quarter. Mid-Prairie found a run of their own, 12-2, in the second and things were tied at 31 going to the half. In the second half Mid-Prairie extended their lead to five in the third quarter but MEPO answered behind 10 points from Will Schroeder in the fourth to take a lead of their own late. The Bulldogs were up 58-56 with under a minute left and the ball. The Hawks forced a pair of turnovers and hit one free throw to pull within one. Mid-Prairie had two chances to win the game in the final 20 seconds but the tip at the buzzer wouldn’t go, giving the Bulldogs a one point win. Cale Robertson led the Hawks with 13 points, Ryan Slabaugh had 12 on four three pointers. Mid-Prairie is now 4-13 on the year.
