Multiple annual reports and funding requests were presented at Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting, including a zero percent increase request from the Washington County Public Library Association.

The association includes the Wellman-Scofield Public Library, the Kalona Public Library, and the Washington Public Library. Regarding funding Washington Library Director Debbie Stanton said, “Sounds like you guys are proposing a zero percent budget increase for county departments, so we thought we’ve been really well supported by you guys in the past when we’ve requested increases. So we’ve decided to not request an increase this year, to let it rest, we’re doing well.” She added the association recently received a Washington County Riverboat Foundation grant to help fund the digitizing of every county newspaper for 13 area communities. The newspapers will be digitized and then free for people to view online.

The association requested the same funding as last year from the county at $165,000, which goes to the three libraries including some costs they share such as IT services.
