The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk basketball team is back on the floor tonight at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman when they welcome the Monticello Panthers to town.
The Golden Hawk girls enter play at 9-5, looking to stop a three game losing streak. Mid-Prairie fell to No. 8 Iowa City Regina on Tuesday 71-60. Mid-Prairie was led by Addie Rath with 17 points. On the season Rath leads Mid-Prairie scoring 18 points per game, second in the River Valley Conference. She also leads the team with 96 rebounds. Anna Vilovchik has a team best 35 assists.
Monticello enters play with an overall record of 11-4. They are currently ranked No. 10 in the latest class 3A poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. In their last game they beat No. 11 Camanche 54-50. On the season the Panthers are led by Lauren Ries scoring 17 points per game, third best in the RVC. Taylor McDonald is sixth in the River Valley with 55 assists. Jordan Kuper is seventh in the conference with 124 rebounds. Last year Mid-Prairie won this matchup 44-34.
The Mid-Prairie boys enter play with an overall record of 2-12. The Golden Hawks fell to the rival Regina Regals on Tuesday in Wellman. 67-42. Tom Butters had 10 points. On the year Cale Robertson leads Mid-Prairie averaging 10 points per game. Brad Tornow is fifth in the conference with 38 assists. Butters leads the Hawks and is fourth in the RVC with 90 rebounds.
Monticello comes into tonight with an overall record of 6-7. They fell at Camanche Tuesday 63-52. On the season Alex Nealson leads the way with 13 points per game, eighth in the RVC. He’s also third in the conference with 111 boards. Jacob Manternach has the team lead with 60 assists, third most in the conference. The Panthers won this matchup 66-31 a year ago.
Action begins tonight with the boys game first at 6PM at Mid-Prairie High School.
