Do you want to go ice fishing but don’t know how?
Washington County Conservation Board is hosting a free ice fishing clinic this weekend for those who wish to continue angling through the winter months. Staff and volunteers will provide poles and bait, and will give tips and tricks for catching fish from five-inch holes on the upper pond near the conservation education center. They will also have an underwater camera to see the fish in action. Naturalist Pam Holz shares the value of this winter sport, “Fishing is a life skill. And there can be a little bit of tricks to ice fishing to entice the fish to bite, but it’s something anybody can do and you get to be on the ice too, so that’s pretty cool.”
Participants are invited for hot cocoa afterwards inside the education center where they can explore the building and view the 180-gallon native fish aquarium. The ice fishing clinic is Saturday at 1 p.m. at Marr Park, and those 16 and older must have a fishing license.
