Financial aid, application process, and requirements are all things considered before applying to colleges and universities and one local non-profit is holding an event to cover these topics for Spanish-speakers in the community.
Jacqueline Amigon with Latinos for Washington explains, “It’s an event to help parents assist their children that are in high school or in junior high basically get prepared for university. We know that the high school in Washington has a lot of stuff going on already, but this event is in Spanish. So hopefully this will help a lot of parents get familiarized and help their students.”
She shares what the staff from the University of Iowa will discuss with attendees, “They will be providing, like I said, key days for on financial aid and financial packages, FAFSA, just a lot of stuff. And we want to invite parents, we want to invite the students to please come. Like we have indicated, Latinos for Washington is here to just help the community and we believe that education is a very key factor to get this community going.” Amigon adds the meeting is open to parents with students at any grade level so they can start planning and preparing for college.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. this Thursday (1/11) in the choir room at the Washington High School.
