Wet, slick, and icy road conditions Sunday caused many vehicles to slide off of roadways in Washington County.

According to the Washington County Communications Office, there were 18 wrecks, including 12 along Highway 218. At 10:37 a.m. a Ford Ranger truck slid into the ditch along Wayland Road and it was driven by Robert James of Colorado; he was seen at the hospital for an injured back. At 11:40 a.m. a semi and an SUV collided near Highway 218 and 175th Street, both vehicles were driveable and no injuries were reported.

At 6 p.m. it was reported to dispatch that there was an accident and vehicles along Wayland Road that could not get up the hill. A vehicle driven by Scott Wichhart of Mt. Pleasant hit a vehicle that was parked in the roadway with no lights on, and his vehicle ended up in the ditch. County Roads Department was contacted and assisted with clearing the roadway. Charges are pending.
