Local dairy producers have the opportunity to learn about emerging dairy industry issues at the 2018 Dairy Day hosted by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach specialists.

Kalona will be home to one of seven events scheduled for this annual series. Topics to be discussed at this day-long program include double cropping small grain and sorghum forages on your dairy, alternative forages for dairy cows, and dairy profitability.

Extension Dairy Specialist Jenn Bentley is coordinating the event, “I would encourage producers to come, [it] just gives them an opportunity to network, to learn, be with other producers maybe facing the same challenges as they are and be able to learn from other producers. As well as learn from Extension specialists that they may not be able to hear at other times of the year since we only do this once a year. We don’t get to every county every year, so this provides a great opportunity to learn the most up-to-date research and practices.”

The Dairy Day takes place January 30 from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Kalona Chamber of Commerce. There is a $15 registration fee which covers lunch. Pre-registration is encouraged by January 26, contact the Washington County Extension office for more information.
