Snowmobilers wanting to tear up the hills in southeast Iowa this winter should make sure they’re prepared before heading out on the trails.

Southeast Iowa Ridge Blasters snowmobile club President Cody Krueger recommends riders make sure their equipment is well-maintained to prevent any breakdowns. Krueger adds, “It’s very important to let somebody know that you are going out riding and where you’re going to be. And it’s very advisable not to go out on a snowmobile alone. It’s definitely more fun to go out with a group of people and much safer in case anything does happen.”

Krueger suggests to bring tools, a cell phone, and an extra pair of socks and gloves in case feet and hands get wet. Proper attire for snowmobiling include boots, snow pants, a neck warmer, and a helmet.
