Maple syruping, paddling, and hanging out with live raptors are just a few of the activities Louisa County Conservation has planned for 2018.
These activities are a part of three series aimed at getting kids outdoors. Two returning series are eXtreme Kids for youth in fourth through sixth grade and eXtreme Adventures for teens in seventh through ninth grade.
Naturalist Lana Artz-McComb shares why they are adding the Nature Tots series for two- through four-year-olds, “We wanted to have a program that was appropriate for kids who are not yet in school. We realized that we didn’t really have much for kids before the age of kindergarten. And we know that we have lots of fantastic parents, and grandparents, and caregivers in our county that were excited about getting their youngsters outdoors but didn’t quite know how, especially when you can’t sign up your two-year-old for summer camp very easily. So we wanted to provide an opportunity for that population to get outside as well.”
Each series of programs has four events throughout 2018, which participants can register for all or any individual event they choose, with $5 for each Nature Tots event and $10 for each of the older events. If cost is a barrier, Artz-McComb says scholarships can be requested by contacting the Louisa County Conservation office.
