The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team hosted their first meet of the year Thursday, welcoming River Valley Conference rivals West Branch, West Liberty and Iowa City Regina to Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.

Mid-Prairie opened the night with a win over West Branch 36-19. The Golden Hawks got wins in contested matches from David Murray at 145lbs by 5-2 decision in overtime, Ben Meader by fall at 160lbs, and Josh Wallington at 170lbs by 10-8 decision.

In their second dual of the night the Golden Hawks fell to No. 7 ranked West Liberty 81-0. The Comets won all 14 matches on the night, 13 by pin to secure the win.

The Golden Hawks bounced back in their final dual of the night, pounding rival Iowa City Regina 54-11. The Golden Hawks got wins in contested matches from Tobin Miller at 113lbs by fall, David Murray by fall at 145lbs, Miles Burrows by fall at 152lbs, Ben Meader by fall at 160lbs, and Colton Allen by fall at 195lbs.

After going 2-1 at the meet, Mid-Prairie is now 5-4 overall on the year and will travel to a pair of tournaments Saturday, splitting their squad between Mount Vernon and Marion.
