The Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ basketball team opened their season on a high note Tuesday beating Lone Tree 48-15.

The Wolves jumped all over the Lions early, leading 14-2 after the first quarter. The rest of the half was much of the same with WMU leading 27-10 at the break. Lone Tree’s defense settled in only allowing seven points in the third, but it was not enough as Wolves roared past the Lions for the 48-15 victory. Winfield-Mt. Union had a pair of players in double figures including Lexee Hartsock with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jenna Buffington had an impressive freshman debut with 13 points and eight boards.

With the win the Wolves open up the season 1-0, as Lone Tree drops to 0-2. WMU gets back on the court today hosting West Liberty, as the Lions travel to Keota Monday.
