The Highland girls’ basketball team continued their strong start to the season Tuesday night when they defeated New London 39-33.

The Huskies got out to a slow start offensively and trailed 10-3 after the first quarter and 20-16 at the break. After both teams traded blows in the third quarter, the Huskies turned it on when trailing by four in the final frame. Despite only shooting 30% from the floor in the game, the Huskies stymied the New London attack to only five points in the fourth to hang on to the 39-33 victory. Alyson Stokes had a double double with 14 points and 10 boards. Murphy Beinhart added 11 points and created three steals on the other end.

With the win the Huskies improve to 2-0 on the young season. They will look to keep the trend going Tuesday when they travel to Columbus Community (0-1).
