The Columbus Community girls’ basketball team starts up their season tonight when they host Wapello.
The Wildcats will look to build off of an 11-11 season a year ago with a couple top players lost to graduation. The Wildcats lost their top two scorers Shania Boyd and Bailey Stroud, as they averaged a combined 35 points per game. Maki Mendenhall will look to step up in her senior campaign, coming off of a year where she was the leading rebounder with seven per game and averaged five points per contest. Junior Anna Hamilton could be a key player defensively managing 29 steals a year ago.
The Arrows return some core players from a season where they went 12-10. Eryka Dickey looks to be Wapello’s main scorer, coming off of a freshman season where she averaged 10 points a game. Tiffany Parsons will crash the boards averaging six rebounds a contest and she had a team-high 80 steals.
The action gets started at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Columbus Community High School.
