Saturday is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, an initiative to curb drug abuse and address a public safety issue.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration will give the public its 14th opportunity in seven years to prevent pill abuse and theft by disposing potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. A record amount of 74.5 pounds of pills were taken in Washington in fall of 2016. Pills can be brought for disposal to United Presbyterian Church in Washington this Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The service is free and anonymous.
