The Sigourney-Keota Cobras and Wilton Beavers played a back and forth contest on Friday night with a class 1A automatic playoff bid on the line.
It was the Beavers who scored in the final minute of the contest to take a 36-30 win. The Beavers opened the game, scoring on their first possession, and after a blocked extra point led 6-0. Sigourney-Keota owned the rest of the half, running up 22 points in a row to take a 22-6 lead into the break. Wilton came out of the half scoring back to back touchdowns to climb within 22-20 before the Cobras found the end zone again to put the lead back at 30-20 with under five to go in the game. The Beavers found some late game magic, scoring on a 42 yard run to get within two and then finding the end zone with just 15 seconds to go in the game to win it.
Carson Crawford and Luke Greiner both went over the century mark on the ground for the Cobras with Crawford putting up 165 yards and Greiner 141. Each had two touchdowns. Quarterback Jerome Mays accounted for five Wilton touchdowns in the win and 321 all-purpose yards.
The Cobras finish the regular season at 5-4 and advance to the class 1A playoffs as a wildcard where they will travel to Pella Christian to face the 9-0 No. 3 ranked Eagles in the first round Friday.
