In a classic 8-man shootout the Iowa Valley football team held on to defeat WACO in the regular season finale Friday winning 76-61.

Both offenses put on a clinic en route to over 1,000 yards from scrimmage between the two teams. The Warriors and Tigers traded blows in the first quarter highlighted by a 15-yard touchdown run by Colton Horak and then later in the quarter he scooped up a fumble and took it 41 yards to the house. The score was tied 12-12 at the end of one. Horak went right back to work in the second quarter scoring on a 17-yard touchdown run and then later from 33 yards out. Garet Sims kept the Tigers in it with scoring touchdowns of 11 and 57 yards. WACO had the edge at the break 34-26.

WACO’s Hunter Donaldson got in on the action in the third scoring from 19 yards out and Horak added another from 62. The Tigers took the lead for good late in the third quarter on a Ben Smith 52 yard-rushing touchdown. Both teams traded blows the rest of the way as the Tigers held on for the crazy 76-61 victory.

Horak finished the night with 251 yards on the ground and five rushing touchdowns with the one defensive score. Nick Coble was six of 14 for 102 yards through the air and one score. Calvin Battle had two receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown. Sims had a big day for the Tigers with six rushing touchdowns on 286 yards.

With the win the Tigers improve to 6-3 as WACO finished the season 4-6. The Warriors lose Battle, Jason Sammons, and Cody Crawford to graduation.
