Soybean and corn harvest in southeast Iowa is behind the five-year average.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s weekly report, 15% of corn has been harvested for grain, while the five-year average is 18%. Locally, 17% of soybeans have been harvested, behind the five-year average of 23%. Last week only five percent of the state’s soybeans had been harvested. Iowa’s corn condition is rated at 13% very poor to poor, 27% fair, 51% good, and nine percent excellent. Soybeans are rated at 12% very poor to poor, 27% fair, 52% good, and nine percent excellent. Iowa’s pasture and range land is rated at 20% very poor, 26% poor, 32% fair, and 21% good.
