Harvest is quickly approaching and over half of Iowa’s corn and soybeans are rated at good to excellent.

According to Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey, “We are likely a week or two away from widespread harvest. We are seeing corn being chopped for silage and seed corn harvest taking place across the state.” According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, this week in southeast Iowa 85% of corn has dented and 32% is mature. Locally, 65% of soybeans are coloring and 22% are dropping leaves. Iowa’s corn rates at 10% excellent, 49% good, 28% fair, and 13% poor to very poor. Soybeans are rated at eight percent excellent, 50% good, 27% fair, and 15% poor to very poor.
