One person was hurt and livestock were killed when a semi went into the East Fork of Crooked Creek along Highway 218 Friday morning.

According to the Washington County Communications Office, at 4:42 a.m. officials responded to the wreck near the intersection of Highway 218 and 320th street between Crawfordsville and Olds. The Iowa State Patrol reports, the tractor trailer was loaded with cattle and northbound; it left the roadway, entered the east ditch and came to rest partially submerged in the creek. The driver was extricated and transported to the University of Iowa Hospital. Numerous cattle were killed or injured as result of the crash.

As heard live from the scene on KCII, traffic in the northbound lanes was reduced to one lane while emergency crews worked at the scene. Washington County Ambulance, Washington County Sheriff’s personnel, Crawfordsville Fire Department, Crawfordsville QRS, Washington County Rescue, Riverside Fire Department, and the Iowa State Patrol responded to the wreck. The name of the driver has not been released.
