Kalona City Hall will be closed this Friday due to work on the new community center.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh proposed the office be closed on Friday at Tuesday’s city council meeting, “They’re going to be cutting over the electrical which is going to take the better part of all day. They’re also going to be redoing our fiber connection in the building. KCTC, as well as Alliant Energy, is going to be recharging the gas line here, so we’re going to be without electrical, and phone, and internet, so it’s not going to be very conducive here.”

Schlabaugh and City Clerk Karen Christner mentioned that any calls made to city hall on Friday will be redirected to an emergency number. Crews will backfeed a generator to the fire station to keep it operable during the day. Schlabaugh says after Friday utilities should be 100% operable during the construction project, aside from an occasional instance of redoing a breaker or circuit. Kalona City Hall will reopen Monday. The Kalona Community Center is expected to be completed summer 2018.
