Drought conditions have lessened slightly in Iowa from last week to this week.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, just over 48% of Iowa is abnormally dry, down from nearly 56% a week ago. Currently 2.27% is in extreme drought, 9.5% is in severe drought, and 27.62% of the Hawkeye State is in moderate drought. Washington County has some areas abnormally dry and the southwest corner is in moderate drought. Jefferson and Keokuk Counties are experiencing areas of severe drought, as well as moderate drought. At this time about 985,000 Iowans are in drought areas.
