One in every five children under 15-years-old who were killed in traffic crashes were pedestrians in 2015, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

With students back in school, Washington County Sheriff Jared Schneider is reminding kids to cross the road safely, “One of the things I like to stress with my own kids, at any time of the year, is looking both ways before crossing the street.” He says parents need to remind their children to cross safely. According to the CDC, nearly 5,400 pedestrians were killed in traffic wrecks in 2015. If possible, go across the street where there is a crossing guard because it is more visible and traffic is accustomed to stopping there, even if it means going one block further.
