The Iowa State Fair is underway and Washington County has been represented in a variety of ways from the livestock show rings to the talent stage.

Weighing in at 393 pounds a pumpkin from Riverside was the third-largest and it belongs to Dave Miller. Also, a local cow was part of the 35 annual Governor’s Charity Steer Show. The steer owned by Macey Thomann was named Bunny and was shown by Iowa Corn Growers Association President Kurt Hora. Also a clog duet by Madelyn Janecek and Michaela Hoffman advanced to the semi-final round of the Bill Riley’s 58th annual Iowa State Fair Talent Search. Makenzi Marek represented Washington County in the state fair queen contest. In addition, Washington County is represented by 4-H members showing livestock and 49 non-livestock projects.
