From Christmas in July to Big Wheel tricycle races, there’s a little bit of everything at the annual Chief Wapello Days July 14-16.

Committee chairperson Mark Kemper mentions a few of the activities, “There’s a lot of events, kid’s games, bounce houses, a miniature train ride. We’ve got some food vendors, there’s a teen dance Friday night. Then there’s of course our main dance, adult dance uptown on the Saturday night; just a whole lot going on.”

Saturday’s parade at 10 a.m. features the theme “Super Heroes”. All of the kids’ activities are free, and most of the fundraising for the festival comes from the adult dance, with country and classic rock cover band Copperhead Creek performing.

Chief Wapello Days also has their 16th annual car show, which Kemper says might have 200 automobiles appear this year. The fifth annual disc golf tournament is also a popular event for those wanting to enjoy the final day of the festival on Sunday. The KCII Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live from Chief Wapello Days on Saturday.
