The first step of the postseason for the Iowa Mennonite School (11-9) baseball team will kick off tonight when they travel to Keota to take on Tri-County (1-18) in the class 1A district semifinal round.
IMS will be well rested for their playoff run, as they haven’t played in eleven days where they fell in defeat to Wapello 4-3 in the regular season finale to finish seventh in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference. Pitching is what is going to lead IMS in the postseason as the three-headed monster of Blake Bontrager, Caleb Yoder, and Drake Brezina all have a sub 2.0 ERA. Brezina also leads IMS at the plate with a .389 BA and 16 RBI on the year.
Despite their record, hitting has been a bright spot for the Trojans as they have five players with at least a .300 BA. Cameron Krumm leads that group with a .415 BA and five RBI. Aydan Bos is the catalyst on the mound with a 6.86 ERA in 32 innings of work.
The chance to prolong the season gets started at 5 p.m. tonight at Keota High School. Tune into KCII to listen to the broadcast starting at 4:30 p.m. for the Washington HyVee pregame show.
