The Sigourney baseball and softball teams continue to impress in the South Iowa Cedar League as they defeated Montezuma Wednesday night.
For the girls, it was a back and forth thriller as the Savages (12-6) edged out the Braves 7-6. Montezuma (9-8) jumped on Sigourney early, plating three runs in the first inning. After a couple more runs by the Braves, the Savages chipped away at the lead and found themselves tied at 6-6 going into the final frame. It was all smiles for the Savages as they were able to deliver with a run for the walk-off win. Autum Barthelman led the Savages going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs. Brooke Waechter and Megan Stuhr combined for four hits and four RBI.
For the boys, it was all Savages (7-4) from the start as they exploded for eight runs in the first inning. The Braves (0-12) tried to make a game of it with four runs in the second but six more Savage runs shut the door on Montezuma, claiming the 14-4 win. Avery Moore turned some heads going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Moore flirted with a cycle, being just a single away from the rare feat. Josh Mohr went five innings on the bump without giving up a run.
Both teams get back on the diamond tonight when they travel to North Mahaska.
