The Highland baseball and softball teams start their seasons tonight as they visit Mediapolis.

The Huskies baseball team had a lot to cheer for in 2016. A 24-7 record and the first state appearance in 32 years gave the Highland community much be excited about. Turn the page to 2017 and the season looks just as bright for the Huskies as they only lost two players to graduation and are led by 10 seniors on a loaded lineup. Chase Rath is one of those seniors to watch as he looks to build off of his .390 BA and a Southeast Iowa Super Conference leading 1.05 ERA. Bill Burton held his own with a .381 BA and Brody Burton had an intriguing freshman season posting a 1.41 ERA.

Expect another successful season out of the Huskies softball team, bringing back plenty of talent of their own. Coming off a 20-10 season, the Huskies keep seven of their eight all conference members from a year ago. Kelsey Hora leads the pack by posting a .585 BA that was second in the state for class 2A. Megan Hoenig will lead the Huskies in the circle as she posted a 15-5 record and 2.42 ERA in her freshman campaign.

Both games get started at 7 p.m. tonight at Mediapolis High School.
