The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk and Keota Eagle baseball teams open the season tonight in Keota.
Mid-Prairie enters play off of a 13-18 overall record in 2016. The Hawks return eight of their top nine offensive players from a year ago, led by Karson Gingerich and his .312 average. Mid-Prairie also returns four of their top five arms on the mound, led by freshman Brad Tornow who finished his eighth grade campaign with a microscopic 1.58 ERA.
Keota was 11-11 a season ago. The Eagles lost three of their top four All-South Iowa Cedar League selections to graduation but due return all-conference performer Jacob Wickenkamp. Wickenkamp finished last year with 27 innings of work on the hill and hit .307 at the plate.
