The No. 14 ranked Iowa Mennonite School boys soccer team opens the tournament trail tonight when they travel to Pella Christian High School to match up with the Chariton Chargers in the first round of the class 1A playoffs.
IMS enters the first round contest with an overall record of 12-3, winners of six in a row including a Southeast Iowa Superconference Tournament Championship and a 2-1 win over Mount Vernon on the road in their last match Thursday. On the season, Iowa Mennonite is led by Cole Ours and his 17 goals, second most in the Southeast Iowa Superconference and eighth most in the state. His 11 assists are most in the Superconference and sixth most in the state. In goal Blake Bontrager has 65 saves, fourth most in the Superconference.
Chariton enters play with an overall record of 5-9. They were beaten 1-0 by the Oskaloosa Indians Friday. On the season the Chargers are led by Royce Stuart with eight goals, fourth most in the South Central Conference. Vladislav Belonozhko leads the Chargers and the South Central Conference with seven assists. In goal, Quentyn Pennington leads the Chargers and the league with 142 saves.
Action begins tonight at 5p.m. at Pella Christian High School.
