The Iowa Mennonite School boys soccer team traveled to Mount Vernon for a non-conference match with the Mustangs on Thursday night and returned with a 2-1 win, their sixth in a row.
IMS got on the board when Isaiah Swantz connected on a penalty kick in the first half to make it 1-0. IMS jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Nick Yutzy scored on a Gerardo Mendoza assist. The Mustangs scored in the 31st minute to cut the margin in half at 2-1 going into the break. In the second half the IMS defense dug in to make the slim margin stand up. Blake Bontrager recorded the win in goal for IMS making four saves. With the victory Iowa Mennonite is now 12-3 on the year and will next be in action Monday at Pella Christian High School against the Chariton Chargers in the opening round of substate play.
