A Highland senior’s love of car shows is the inspiration for the car and tractor show being held at Highland High School in Riverside this Saturday. The show will be raising funds for the class of 2017’s graduation, with funds coming from the participant registration, t-shirt and food sales.

Senior Nic Rath came up with the idea of the car show as a fundraiser for the senior class, and with the help of faculty, sponsors, family, and fellow seniors Nate Yahnke, Josh Brand, and Logan Harvison, he has done the planning and advertising for the event.

This is the first year the Highland senior class has held a car show. Rath says, “Me and my dad, we usually go to the Washington car show they usually have down there, and then I was thinking, ‘Well, this would be kind of cool. I’m sure they have to register or they get money from doing car shows,’ so I was like ‘Hey, maybe we should do a car show.’”

From the help of friends and relatives, car show enthusiasts, and administration, Rath has not had a shortage of encouragement for this event, “They’ve been really supportive, which has been really awesome. At one point I would just be overwhelmed trying to think of stuff, and they’ll just come in and help me, like. ‘Oh yeah, we can do this,’ and, ‘You should do it this way, it would be a lot easier,’ which really helps a lot because it’s hard to tackle as one person.”

Rath says he’s most excited for the tractors that will be on display, and he’s expecting a good turn out for the event. You can still register for the car and tractor show by emailing highland17fundraiser@gmail.com. The show will go from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22nd.
