Area schools participated in the Hawk Co-ed Relays in Wellman on Tuesday night. Teams participating include Highland and Columbus Community boys and girls and the girls’ teams of Lone Tree and Sigourney.

The Sigourney girls found the most success of the area schools placing second overall with 124 total points. Mid-Prairie won the meet with 160 points. The Barthelman sisters, Autum and Summer, stole the show for the Savages by being involved in all five of the team’s first place finishes. Autum won the 100m dash with a time of 12.67 seconds and the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.25 seconds. Summer matched her sister by taking home the title in the long jump with a leap of 16’2’’ and the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.24 seconds. They both grabbed one more title by being a part of the winning shuttle hurdle relay team, also consisting of Leah Carter and Sloane Magill.

Highland grabbed a third place finish at the meet with a combined 92 points. Highlighting the night for the Huskies was Bailey Harmston who took the high jump title with a heave of 31’8’’. Other first place finishes for Highland was the 4×100 team consisting of Sarah Schneider, Kelsey Hora, Kristy Thomann, and Aly Stokes and the 4×200 team including Thomann, Haley Sweeting, Emily Yahnke, and Murphy Beinhart. Other notable finishes from the night include Lone Tree’s first place sprint medley team of Emily Feldman, Marrisa Swails, Elena Sieverding, and Holley Johnson. Columbus’ Shania Boyd grabbed a trio of second place finishes in the 100m, 100 hurdles, and 400 hurdles.

Highlighting the action for the Wildcat boys were Tommie Pretz who was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17’10’’. Mark Estrada grabbed a sixth place finish in the 3200 for Highland with a time of 11:40 seconds.
