A semi-truck hit a moped in Wapello Monday and one person died. According to the Iowa State Patrol, at 9:50 p.m. the moped was westbound on Oak Street attempting to cross Highway 61, but failed to yield upon entering the highway and was struck by the semi at the intersection of Kennedy Drive. Both vehicles came to rest in the southbound lane of Highway 61. The semi was driven by 57-year-old Steven Lutman of Colfax, Illinois. The name of the deceased has not be released, pending notification of family. The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Wapello Fire Department, Wapello EMS, and Louisa County Medical Examiner assisted at the scene.
