The Kalona City Council is having their regular meeting Monday night. Topics on the agenda include a public hearing for the “Safe Routes” contracts at 7 p.m. Mayor Ken Herington describes Safe Routes, “We got a grant for safe routes, which is sidewalks in the city, primarily towards the elementary and junior high. Finally, after years, it came to fruition, the bid letting was done two months ago and we’re actually awarding contracts so we can finally get those sidewalks built.”
Herington talks about the progress on the plans for the Kalona Community Center, “We’ve done a lot of revisions over the last few months to make a few changes to the actual original building layout that we had. The architects are supposed to be back with the final plans and specifications so we can look at it, final bid estimates, so we can look at those to move onto bid letting so we can actually get this thing underway.”
New business included on the council agenda is consideration of a Kalona Coop Telephone Company signage proposal. The meeting is held at the community center at 7 p.m.
