The Coe College softball team has won 17 of their first 19 games to start the year and area athletes are a big reason why.

Mid-Prairie graduate Mallory McArtor and Highland graduate Paige Wieland have been in the thick of things so far this year for the Kohawks. On the season, McArtor is hitting .313 with 20 total hits, 14 runs scored, 12 RBI and one home run. Wieland is hitting .241 this year with 13 total hits, 13 runs scored, and seven driven in. In their most recent action the Kohawks swept a doubleheader from Augustana Friday in Cedar Rapids, taking game one 9-1 in six innings and game two 13-4 in five innings. McArtor was two for six in the pair of games with two runs scored and two driven in, Wieland scored once and drove in one in the two game set. The Kohawks are currently ranked 12th in the latest poll from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
