Swimmers from five Midwest states will travel to Iowa City this weekend for the 2017 YMCA North Central Regional Championships. Eleven members of the Washington Watersharks swim team will compete in 27 individual events and four relays today and tomorrow at the University of Iowa Campus Recreation and Wellness Center. The Watersharks will race swimmers from Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Watersharks swim coach Brenda Adrian says there are multiple advantages to having the regional meet in Iowa City. She says her swimmers will be able to sleep in their own beds instead of a hotel, and they will have the option of home cooked meals rather than dining out all weekend.

The Watersharks have two swimmers competing in the 10 and under session beginning at 8 a.m. including Greta Sieren and Brennen Westphal. The rest of the qualified swimmers will compete in the 11 and older session at noon. Those swimmers are Ben Berhow, Noah Bruns, Michael Kimball, Noah Kleese, Reece Mayer, Nic Rath, Colton Slaubaugh, Audrey Wubbena, and Quinn Wubbena.
