A senior on the Washington Demon archery team is receiving scholarship money for her performance at last weekend’s 2017 Iowa State Tournament. The National Archery in the Schools Program offers scholarships to the top scoring senior boy and girl in both the bullseye and 3D state competitions. Grace Shafer-Smith represented Washington in both events in Des Moines.
Shafer-Smith’s best result came during the 3D shoot where she scored a score of 280 out of a possible 300 points. The mark topped the 14-person high school girls’ division, earning her a $1,000 scholarship. The 2017 Iowa State Tournament was sponsored by the Iowa Bowhunters Association, Whitetails Unlimited, the Iowa State Archery Association and Safari Club International.
