Washington County is moving toward staffing its own emergency management coordinator and plans for funding will be discussed Wednesday. The Washington County Emergency Management Commission is meeting and will consider a levy and the current funding formula for the position. Currently Washington and Keokuk counties share Larry Smith as a joint emergency management coordinator, however Washington County decided to terminate the agreement effect July 1st of this year. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the board of supervisors’ meeting room in the Washington County Courthouse.
