Another high school wrestling season ended over the weekend in Des Moines. Wrestlers from Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union, Highland, Sigourney/Keota, and WACO competed in the 2017 Iowa State Individual Wrestling tournament.. Five area wrestlers ended their season on the medal stand.

Columbus/W-MU had a pair of medalists in the Class 2A tournament. At 106 pounds, Jarod Kadel won his first three matches to advance to the state title grapple against No. 1 Grayson Kesterson of Williamsburg. Kesterson edged Kadel by 4-0 decision to win the championship. At 170 pounds, Tucker Morrison won three of his five matches, including a 4-2 decision over New Hampton’s Noah Glaser in the fifth place match.

Sigourney/Keota had three wrestlers in the tournament and two finished with medals. At 106 pounds, Mason Dye was eliminated from the competition after three matches. At 195 pounds, Kaleb Reeves tallied three pinfall victories in five matches including a third-period pin of Hudson’s Wes Geisler (4:26) in the seventh-place match. At 220 pounds, Noah Boender also recorded three victories in five matches. He was defeated by a 5-3 decision to Missouri Valley’s Tom Rief in the third place match.

WACO’s Cody Crawford (285) placed eighth at state for a second straight season. He lost a 5-3 decision to Dike-New Hartford’s Chase Arends in the seventh-place match.

Highland’s Cory Stewart (132) was eliminated from the state tournament after back-to-back losses on day one.
