No official action was taken at Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting regarding county departments moving to the former McCleery Calendar Factory. Hobart Historic Restoration will be restoring the building at 628 East 3rd Street. Owner Jim Hobart has worked with the Board of Health and is willing to make the space suit their needs. However, he has just a couple of weeks left in his timeline to decide whether to make the project commercial or residential, should the county not move forward in partnership.
Washington County Public Health would use approximately 11,000 square feet of the building, with the second floor still available to be rented out or could house other county departments that are needing space. The Board of Health, last week, recommended to the supervisors that the county rent-to-own the building.
In the last week, three of the five supervisors took separate tours of the building. With the funding option presented to the board of supervisors, a bond vote would not be needed. The item will be on next week’s supervisors’ agenda.
