Iowa’s Poet Laureate is presenting two plays in Washington this weekend. Mary Swander has written 13 books and will be in Washington Sunday as part of a LET’s Center program. Lorraine Williams with the LET’s Center for the Creative and Healing Arts says, “We’re just really lucky that she can come to Washington and that we can share these with the local community.”
One show is called “Map of My Kingdom” which deals with family farms and what happens when those who inherit land no longer want to farm it. The other is titled Vang, which talks about recent immigrant farmers. The plays have been in New York City, Chicago, throughout the Midwest. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at letscenter.org. The plays will start at 3 p.m. Sunday and appetizers will be available between the two plays at the Washington Community Center.
