Iowa has had one flu-related death this influenza season. The Iowa Department of Public Health states the deceased was a woman 81 year of age or older who had underlying health conditions from central Iowa. Flu activity in Iowa is minimal and sporadic at this time. Oklahoma is the only state at this time with high influenza activity. Iowa’s State Hygienic Laboratory confirmed 14 cases of influenza A and three influenza B cases in the latest reporting week. Also, there were eight hospitalizations at sentinel hospitals across the state. Lynn Fisher with Washington County Public Health reminds people to get an annual influenza vaccine, which can take up to two weeks to build up in your system.
