An unselfish brand of basketball is starting to develop in Washington. Colin Stark is five games into his first season as head coach of the Washington boys’ basketball program (1-4), and so far, the squad is sharing scoring responsibilities. Nine Washington players have recorded 14 or more points and 13 Demons have registered at least a basket. Last season, 11 players accounted for all 1,341 points, and three tallied nearly 900 points..
Washington’s leading scorer so far is forward Jaivonn Willis with 45 points. Dalton Myers and Tanner Coleman have each tallied 36 points. Jack Redlinger has added 27 points, Bryce Sinn has posted 24 points, and John Dillon has contributed 21. Stark earned his first coaching win at Washington on December 12, defeating the Sigourney Savages (4-4), 65-26.
The Washington Demon boys’ basketball team resumes their season next Tuesday, traveling to Fort Madison for a Southeast Conference game versus the Bloodhounds (5-2). KCII Sports will have live play-by-play coverage of the game, starting with the Washington Hy-Vee Pregame Show at 5:30 p.m. Tip-off of the girls’ games is set for 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.
