As the new year approaches resolutions are often discussed and one that may come to mind is quitting tobacco use. Sarah Smith with Prelude Behavioral Services encourages people to plan ahead of time when they want to quit using tobacco and smoking. She says the first step to take is to talk to your doctor about quitting smoking. And there are resources available to help Iowans quit with Quitline Iowa. There are services offered over the phone or online, including quit coaches. Smith says it may be helpful to have a person you don’t see every day help you quit.
Also, Smith says 14.7% of people in Washington County smoke, which is the second lowest county in the state, following only Winneshiek County.
