Wintry weather is expected to hit the KCII-listening area today and tomorrow with snow, ice and wind making travel difficult. A winter weather advisory has been issued for much of eastern Iowa and western Illinois by the National Weather Service from noon Friday to midnight Saturday. Light snow is expected with periods of sleet possible. Also, wind out of the northwest with gusts up to 30 miles per hour are in the forecast with windchills dropping to 10 to 25 degrees below zero Saturday night. Winter weather advisories are issued when periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties.
The National Weather Service recommends having your vehicle stocked with supplies when driving in winter; be sure to have a snow shovel, ice scraper, jumper cables, flashlights, blankets, a phone charger, food and water. Keep your gas tank close to full. Also, plan your trip and check the weather and road conditions before going into bad conditions. Always give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination safely and if possible, avoid driving when conditions are hazardous. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
